The divine science of astrology is a wonderful asset to humankind. It unfolds the uncertainties in life, reduces tension, and enables one to move in the right direction.

Astrology deals with various aspects of human life such as health, (both physical and mental), business, social status, financial prosperity, name and fame, emotional stability, children, marriage, etc.

The predictive astrology gives us the firm indications in life pertaining to the future events -- even at the time of birth. The astrological remedies at the same time help further by reducing the impact of malefic planetary influences and harness the significations ruled by benefic planets in a person's chart.

Astrology is both an art and science that provides an interpretation of the influence of the stars and planets on human affairs.

THE SOURCE OF ASTROLOGY

Astrology has many branches, but the most salient one is the horoscope reading, which is linked to the birth time of the individual. With the horoscope reading, the planetary positions at the time of birth are noted for inferring and interpreting the results of various aspects of life.

Astrology has its origin in the Vedas from ancient India, and is presently studied all over the world. There are different systems of astrology being used, but the oldest of all is the Vedic astrology -- known as Jyotish, (pronounced joe-tish) and which means the "science of light".

With Vedic astrology there are also a number of sub-systems or schools of thought, but the most time-tested is the one given by Maharishi Parasara, a "Rishi" (sage and seer), who is said to have lived more than 5,000 years before Jesus Christ.

(This book is based on the classical principles of Vedic astrology and its application using the Systems' Approach methodology to interpret horoscopes as developed by Professor V.K. Choudhry. The word astrology will be substituted throughout the book in place of Jyotish or Vedic astrology.)

Astrology is based on the premise that the natal position of planets gives the complete picture of the life of the person concerned. It believes that the horoscope tells us to what degree there are malefic (negative) influences, when they will manifest, and whether they can be reduced.

With the Systems' Approach, you strengthen the weak planets to support their positive effects and to reduce the extent of miseries.

THE INTERPRETATIONS AND SCOPE OF THIS BOOK

The interpretations are dependent on the position of planets at the time of the reading, as well as in the heavens at the time of birth. The positions at birth are known as natal positions, while the positions at the time of interpretation are known as transit position of planets relative to a birth chart.

The difference of opinion of various astrologers is based on their ability to either comprehend data, communicate with others, or in their analytical approach to this body of knowledge. This explains why some readings are accurate, while others may not be as helpful.

The scope of this book is to help you to learn the basic concepts and terminology of Vedic astrology and to provide you with an organized system that is simple, accurate, and practical -- to help you create and interpret the natal or birth chart known as the horoscope.
